Entrepreneurs: Identify your Mentors and Support Team

Even if you are a business of one, you will not be able to do this alone.  You will need to have guidance from those that have blazed similar paths and the support of those that are also building their own dreams alongside you. When you understand how meaningful it is to have both, you will also find yourself playing the role of mentor and comrade for others, because we are in this together even when we are alone.

Mentors

A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you
— Bob Proctor

I cannot put enough emphasis on this, you will need mentors.  Individuals that you can ask the hard questions of, individuals that have been where you are, that know things you haven’t even considered, and who truly want to see you grow.  I’ve been extremely lucky to be surrounded by some of the most intelligent, generous, and insightful people on my journey of building Strength & Grace.  CEO’s, entrepreneurs’, a master coach and small business owners, having these individuals there for me when I need them, knowing that they have confidence in my abilities to see my vision through and also that they will tell me when I may be straying off track.

Support Team

Some people will hear you louder in silence. Those are your tribe - they’ll get you through the tough days and give you something to laugh about on the ride
— Nikki Rowe

Yea, when you’ve been down in the creation bunker for days, post-its everywhere, pacing back and forth just trying to figure out what move to take next since the last ten didn’t really seem to take hold…that’s when you’ll need support.  That’s when you’ll need people that get your purpose, that understand you may need to go for a walk but in no uncertain terms will they tell you stop doing what you’re doing.  When you start sinking under the surface, due to the weights you’ve placed on yourself, they’ll be there to jump in and drag you up to the shallow to breathe, but they’ll never tell you to stop swimming, because they believe in you even when you’re drowning.

This is part of the Chronicles of a Bootstrap Solopreneur Series.

In this series, I share the knowledge, insight and concepts I’ve learned to be beneficial during my time spent thus far as a solopreneur. Many of these methods, mindsets and tactics can be applied to areas beyond the business arena. Starting your own business is basically an exercise of continuous personal growth through: failure, triumph, creation, organization, chaos, perseverance, effort, dedication, vulnerability, self-evaluation and hope…like on the daily. All of these concepts have been Liz tested and approved to be effective in keeping you on course, focusing on what’s important, and succeeding in your venture however you may define success.
