Balance Comes After Obsession
“An entrepreneur tends to bite off a little more than he can chew hoping he’ll quickly learn how to chew it.”
This will not be easy for some to accept, especially considering how much attention and weight the words self-care and balance are getting these days, regardless obsession comes first. Yes, I do schedule in workouts six days a week, and make nutrition and sleep a priority, yet my clients, the quality of the services I provide, the growth of my business and the brand of Strength & Grace are constantly on my mind. Even during my workouts (self-care right) I’m catching up on learning by watching/listening to podcasts on: psychology, entrepreneurship, coaching, marketing and the needs of my ideal client.
There is a need for obsession when you’re tending a newborn business, it will constantly require your attention, and if you’re not a little obsessed then you most likely won’t be able to sustain the energy required to keep going (for a refresher read North Star). You’ve basically got two newborns to take care of: your business and yourself as an entrepreneur. They will both be needy, demanding, mistake-ridden, super cute and neither would you want to give away.
Your life will be a little unbalanced, for a while, pick the self-care items that sustain you and allow for modifications/variations if needed. Disregard anyone that wants to make you feel guilty for your decisions and allow yourself to be completely and utterly obsessed. Be obsessed until both you and your business have grown enough to stand on your own or to be ‘baby sat’ so to speak.
Chronicles of a Bootstrap Solopreneur
In this series, I share the knowledge, insight and concepts I’ve learned to be beneficial during my time spent thus far as a solopreneur. Many of these methods, mindsets and tactics can be applied to areas beyond the business arena. Starting your own business is basically an exercise in continuous personal growth through: failure, triumph, creation, organization, chaos, perseverance, effort, dedication, vulnerability, self-evaluation and hope…like on the daily. All of these concepts have been Liz tested and approved to be effective in keeping you on course, focusing on what’s important, and succeeding in your venture however you may define success.
