Take A Bite Out of Monday

Sunday Scaries Part Two

In Sunday Scaries Part One No Loose Ends, I suggested the rather unpopular but effective idea of actually really working on a Friday.  Completing any tasks, you can instead of “pushing the pain” to the already painful Monday.   In Part Two I take it one step further, with the idea of taking a bite out of Monday on Sunday. (Gasps of horror I know, remember I always have your best interests at heart, please read on).

The Sunday Scaries: are the anxieties one experiences on Sunday when thinking about the impending workweek, school week, or other obligations that await in the week ahead. They are especially bad when accompanied by an end-of-the-weekend hangover. Urban Dictionary enters the term Sunday Scaries in 2009 and a 2013 article suggests it originates in the New York City area.

2.)     Move 4% of Monday to Sunday

“Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action.”

Uhmmm…what exactly are you trying to do here Liz…what are you suggesting?? Listen, it’s the fear of Monday and the work week starting, that is robbing your enjoyment of Sunday.  The frantic hum of anxiety that lies just beneath the surface can literally cast a shadow on even the sunniest of Sundays.  What I’m suggesting is taking no more than one hour (60 minutes if that sounds better to you) on your Sunday to do some Monday work, preferably in the morning so you don’t dread this either.  If you didn’t tie up loose ends on Friday (I know you don’t have any because you read part one and are already taking care of business on Friday) then now is the time to do so.  If anything came up over the weekend and you can solve it easily or push it along the way out of your hands then do your part and move it along.  Take a peek at your week, schedule out a few major items for the week so you’re not making decisions on what to do on Monday.  If there’s anything you really dislike doing on Monday and it can get done on Sunday in under an hour then just do it.  Give yourself a head-start. The anxiety from thinking about what you’ll be doing will dissipate once you start taking action.
