Workout and Get to Bed Early

Sunday Scaries Part Four

In the conclusion of the Sunday Scaries, I ask you to do the unthinkable…

The Sunday Scaries: are the anxieties one experiences on Sunday when thinking about the impending workweek, school week, or other obligations that await in the week ahead. They are especially bad when accompanied by an end-of-the-weekend hangover. Urban Dictionary enters the term Sunday Scaries in 2009 and a 2013 article suggests it originates in the New York City area.

4.)     Workout and go to Bed Early

Dress loose, take a great deal of exercise, and be particular about your diet and sleep sound enough, the body has a great effect on the mind – Elizabeth Caddy Stanton

Seriously don’t even try whining about what I’m suggesting right now, I don’t want to hear it, everything I’m suggesting is for YOU, the Monday YOU.  Own a little bit of your Sunday by doing something healthy for you, because if you’re like I used to be when you’re in front of that screen you’d be wishing that you had the time to work out.

For the typical person, more than half of their day is spent sitting. The normal office worker sits a shocking 15 hours every single day.  To read more CLICK HERE.

Take 30 minutes (2% of your day) on Sunday and move your body, then get yourself into bed early.  Don’t get lulled into the attraction of staying up late on Sunday to squeeze any remnants of the weekend in, chances are staying up late will only allow you to think about the dread of Monday coming.  Get to bed at a reasonable time, this isn’t about you going to bed early to work for ‘the man’ this is about going to bed early for you.  Mondays are a lot less scary when you’re not sleep deprived. Instead of sitting there watching the hours slip by and thinking about the impending doom, just go to sleep and remove that anxiety.  Make it a ritual, set out your clothes for Monday, maybe wear your favorite outfit on Mondays, prepare your meals for the week so you remove that stress, relax and maybe check in with a friend or family member that you look up to and makes you smile.

In Conclusion

The Sunday Scaries, are real, which means that there are real ways to address these real feeling of anxiety.  Be proactive, don’t push the pain, think about what you wish you could do on Mondays and do them on Sunday. Overdoing it on Saturday will rob hours from your Sunday and leak into your Monday.  If you’re unsure just ask “What would my Monday Self want me to do?”, then do that.
