Susan's Story

I first met Susan in September 2015 … not ready to commit to her health at that moment she was just seeing what the training options were, for when she retired in 2016.  Her thought was when I retire I’ll be in here 5 days a week, I can’t do that now.  This concerned me, if she was to go from 0 days a week to 5 days a week, all I could see were potential injuries, set-backs and frustrations.  Starting prior to retirement, to build up a better base was my suggestion, why not start now, even if it’s only one or two days a week, and so it began.

We started small, working on balance, intrinsic core stabilizers and body awareness adding in corrective exercises for her knee along the way.  Susan came in about twice a week, once with me and once on her own adding in group exercise classes and spinning.

"Looking back, I continued because although it was really hard, I already knew I could do this with her. Gradually, and with many adjustments along the way, we both stuck with it. I have lost 30 pounds, my blood pressure medicine has been cut in half, my breathing capacity is much improved (asthmatic). I feel better now than at 40 and I have some muscle definition. Also, I look pretty good! It is great to feel strong."

Now, Susan is in the gym at least 5 days a week, with no major injuries or set-backs.  If her knee acts up we know what to do, which enables her to keep progressing and moving. 

 Susan is the example of dedication, not only with her physical activity but her nutrition as well, enabling her to surpass her ideal weight goal.  We are now on the 19th version of her program, working more on strength then we had before.  I am overjoyed when I see her crushing exercises that I have given her from my own personal workouts.
